Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti recently launched the Makima Tithers Sacco, a women-only savings and investment cooperative, during a colorful ceremony held at a local hotel. The governor praised the initiative as a home-grown effort by women determined to combat poverty and empower their families and communities.
Governor Ndeti also announced plans to operationalize the Wikwatyo Fund, a table banking program initiated by her administration to support women and youth. The fund will allocate an initial Ksh 2 million per ward in the current fiscal year, aiming to boost entrepreneurship, economic participation, and financial independence among marginalized groups in the county.
Through initiatives like the Makima Tithers Sacco and the Wikwatyo Fund, the Machakos County government is reinforcing its commitment to gender equity, socio-economic empowerment, and community-driven development.
