Police in Kisii Seize Ksh.17 Million Bhang Haul, Arrest Five Suspects

Police in Kisii County have intercepted a massive consignment of bhang valued at approximately Ksh.17 million, leading to the arrest of five suspects in a major anti-narcotics operation. The sting, coordinated by officers from Moticho Police Station in collaboration with detectives from the Gucha South DCI office, unfolded over the weekend.

According to police reports, the operation targeted three vehicles believed to be ferrying the illegal substance through the county. Officers successfully impounded the vehicles, uncovering 588 kilograms of bhang concealed within. Two of the vehicles were found carrying 189 kilograms, while a third was discovered to be transporting 399 kilograms. The suspects — identified as Livingstone Akoko, Maxon Ochieng, Fan Odhiambo, Maxwell Musuku, and Abdirahman Ismael — were taken into custody after a brief pursuit. Two additional suspects managed to flee the scene and are currently being sought by authorities.

The seized narcotics and vehicles have been detained at the Nyamarambe Police Station as investigations continue. Law enforcement officials have lauded the operation as a significant step in disrupting the flow of illicit drugs within the region. Police say the successful bust reflects ongoing efforts to curb the rising trade in narcotics across western Kenya, warning that those involved in drug trafficking will face severe legal consequences. The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized.
