The Senate has finally approved the third basis for revenue sharing among counties, ending a prolonged stalemate that had threatened to delay the disbursement of funds. The formula, which will guide allocations for the next three financial years, was passed after a tense all-night session. It considers factors such as population, health, and land area but was a subject of fierce debate between senators from populous and less populous counties. The approval unlocks over Sh400 billion in equitable shareable revenue for the 2023/24 financial year.
