Machakos County is advancing its mission to boost food security and household income through the Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni initiative. This program aims to strengthen agricultural productivity by enhancing water access, supporting climate-resilient farming, and providing resources to smallholder farmers.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti emphasized that the initiative empowers farmers to achieve sustainable livelihoods, linking increased food production with greater financial stability. Key interventions include the construction of farm ponds, water harvesting structures, and the development of dams such as Miwongoni and Kyai, ensuring reliable water supply for agricultural activities.
By integrating water management, modern farming techniques, and community support, the county is creating an enabling environment where farmers can increase yields, reduce post-harvest losses, and secure stable income, thus fulfilling the vision of food on the table and money in the pocket.
