EACC Recovers State Assets Worth Sh3.3 Billion in Eldoret
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has successfully recovered public properties valued at over Sh3.3 billion in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, including a residential house used by a judicial officer. The recovered assets span land and buildings previously allocated irregularly to private entities, with properties belonging to the State Department of Housing, Administration Police, Uasin Gishu Referral Hospital, County Assembly, and Eldoret Municipality among those reclaimed. EACC officials confirmed the move underscores the commission’s commitment to safeguarding public resources and enforcing accountability in county governance.
Among the recovered properties are strategic parcels in Eldoret Municipality, including Block 4/53 measuring 1.67 acres worth Sh370 million, Block 4/52 valued at Sh440 million, and Block 4/57 belonging to the county hospital worth Sh660 million but previously allocated to private investors. EACC Head of Communication, Mr. Eric Ngumbi, explained that irregular allocation of state assets to private individuals has long deprived the public of critical infrastructure and revenue. He also noted that an additional 97 properties, valued at Sh7.4 billion, are under investigation for possible recovery, signaling ongoing efforts to reclaim public resources across the county.
Mr. Ngumbi highlighted that the EACC continues to monitor county budget development to prevent collusion between County Assemblies and executive officers that could promote corruption. He emphasized that some budgets are being manipulated to favor projects already funded or those not intended for implementation, a practice the commission is determined to curb. The recoveries, he stated, demonstrate the EACC’s proactive stance in protecting state property and promoting good governance, reinforcing transparency and accountability in Uasin Gishu County.
