Kakamega County Kicks Off 2025 Trade Expo to Accelerate Investment, Innovation & Tourism
Kakamega County has officially opened the 2025 Trade Expo, a flagship three-day event designed to stimulate economic growth, strengthen local industries, and showcase the region’s cultural wealth. The expo, held in partnership with TJ Premier Events Ltd, reflects Governor Fernandes Barasa’s commitment to expanding opportunities for traders and boosting county-wide wealth creation.
Under the theme Innovating for Sustainable Growth: Navigating Trends in Trade, Technology and Transformation, the event has attracted entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders from across Western Kenya and beyond. It provides a strategic forum for business networking, market exposure, and investor engagement—further solidifying Kakamega’s reputation as a rising commercial hub.
County Officials Call for Strong SME Participation
The event was inaugurated by Chief Officer for Trade, Enterprise Development, Weights and Measures, Ms. Faith Gitira, who encouraged business owners to fully utilize the various financial support programs offered by the county government.
She highlighted the availability of Microfinance loans and social grants targeting business groups, noting that these tools are essential in helping SMEs scale operations, create jobs, and actively participate in regional commerce.
Linking Indigenous Knowledge With Modern Enterprise
The Expo also coincides with ongoing work by the National Museums of Kenya’s Natural Product Industry (NPI) initiative. The program is exploring ways to convert Indigenous Knowledge into economic value by merging traditional practices with scientific research and modern industry standards. County officials say this approach could open new frontiers in manufacturing, natural products, and value addition.
Tourism Spotlight: Culture Takes Center Stage
Beyond trade and industrialization, visitors are treated to vibrant displays of Kakamega’s cultural richness — from traditional arts and crafts to authentic local cuisine. Organizers say the cultural segment of the expo is essential for positioning Kakamega as both a business and tourism destination.
