Governors Warn of Impending Shutdown Over Delayed Funds

by KenyaPolls

The Council of Governors (CoG) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the National Treasury, threatening to shut down county operations if arrears amounting to Sh62 billion are not disbursed. CoG Chair Anne Waiguru stated that counties are unable to pay salaries, suppliers, or fund development projects, crippling service delivery. The Treasury attributed the delay to revenue collection challenges. The standoff highlights the persistent friction in Kenya’s devolution framework and its impact on essential services like health and water at the grassroots level.
