Nairobi, Kenya – Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on January 9, 2025, officially released the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, unveiling the performance of over 962,500 candidates nationwide. While thousands of students celebrated their achievements, the release was marked by strict measures to address exam irregularities, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to fairness and credibility in national assessments.

Ogamba revealed that the results of 840 candidates were cancelled due to malpractice, while an additional 2,829 results have been withheld pending investigations, which are expected to conclude within 30 days. The CS expressed regret that some teachers and contracted professionals continue to facilitate exam irregularities, undermining the integrity of the system. It is unfortunate that a few contracted professionals and teachers are still insistent on ruining the lives of our learners by subjecting them to exam malpractices, he said. The Ministry confirmed that 91 contracted professionals implicated in malpractice will face strict disciplinary action.

The 2024 KCSE exams ran from October 22 to November 22 across 10,755 centres, with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) implementing enhanced verification and individualized handling of irregularities to ensure no school suffers collateral penalties. Previous cases, such as Kisii’s Cardinal Otunga Boys and Nyakongo Secondary School, had results withheld but were subsequently released after investigations. CS Ogamba urged students, teachers, and parents to remain vigilant, emphasizing that safeguarding exam integrity is critical for maintaining trust and excellence in Kenya’s education system.
