Traders and residents in Thika have recognized police efforts to strengthen security and build better community relations, highlighting that the improved safety has boosted business activities and renewed confidence among investors and customers.
The appreciation was conveyed during a vibrant farewell ceremony organized for outgoing Thika Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi and officers serving in the sub-county.
The event, initiated by business community members, gathered traders, residents, and local leaders in a celebration featuring music, entertainment, and nyama choma as attendees recognized the work of police officers in fighting crime and preserving order in the busy town.
Addressing the gathering, Thika District Business Association (TDBA) Chairman Alfred Wanyoike praised the positive relationship between security personnel and residents, noting that the collaboration had been instrumental in decreasing incidents of theft, pickpocketing, and other criminal activities that previously hindered business operations.
Wanyoike stated that improved security had established a more conducive atmosphere for commerce and investment, enabling entrepreneurs to function with increased assurance and minimal interruptions.
He encouraged traders and residents to maintain cooperation with security forces by providing information that could aid in crime prevention and peacekeeping throughout the town and adjacent areas.
The business representative also requested the incoming police leadership to uphold community policing principles and maintain regular engagement with residents to enhance public confidence and further improve security.
Outgoing Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi thanked the residents and traders for their support to the police during his service period, noting that the alliance between the public and law enforcement had facilitated quicker responses to incidents and substantially decreased crime rates in Thika and neighboring regions.
Muchangi emphasized that effective policing depends on collaboration between the community and security agencies, adding that the backing provided to officers by residents had been crucial in maintaining law and order.
He advised the new police commander to continue developing strong connections with the community to ensure ongoing peace and stability in the sub-county.
During the ceremony, traders and residents offered gifts to Muchangi in acknowledgment of his service and leadership during his three-year term as Thika Sub-County Police Commander.
Muchangi has been reassigned to Nyeri where he will assume the role of Deputy County Police Commander, while John Kimanthi has been appointed as the new Thika Sub-County Police Commander.
