According to the 2025 State of the Media Survey Report by the Media Council of Kenya, Radio Jambo stands as Kenya’s foremost radio station in shaping public opinion, leveraging both authoritative news reporting and compelling talk programming.
The study underscores radio’s persistent role in national discourse, attributing this influence to a combination of comprehensive news bulletins and interactive morning programs that draw substantial listenership.
With a nine percent influence rating, Radio Jambo leads among opinion-shaping stations. Kameme FM morning shows follow at seven percent, while Radio Citizen programs account for six percent.
Political discussion programs and Radio Maisha broadcasts also contribute significantly, each representing five percent of opinion influence.
The report attributes radio’s impact primarily to its accessibility and immediate content delivery, especially through prominent news bulletins and commentary segments that appeal to diverse audiences.
These conclusions derive from a nationwide survey conducted April 15-23, focusing on Kenyan residents aged 15 and older.
Researchers employed Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) methods to collect data, guaranteeing response accuracy and consistency.
The study sampled 3,774 respondents through a multi-stage stratified design using Probability Proportional to Size (PPS), encompassing all 47 counties across Kenya’s eight regions.
The research maintained a margin of error of approximately ±1.7 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
According to the Ipsos Kenya Audience Tracker (IKAT) from November, Radio Jambo ranked as Nairobi’s most-listened-to station, capturing the greatest portion of urban radio listeners.
The survey indicated that Radio Jambo drew 7.3 percent of the total 3,175,546 radio listeners, establishing it as the station with the broadest audience reach in urban areas.
Beyond audience size, Radio Jambo also commands 20.2 percent of total listening time, equivalent to 914,557,330 minutes across all stations.
This demonstrates that while Radio Jambo reaches 7.3 percent of listeners, its audience spends significantly more time engaged, comprising approximately one-fifth of all radio listening time in the city.
The survey additionally revealed that six in ten Nairobians listen to Gidi na Ghost Asubuhi, the station’s signature morning program, which has evolved into Radio Africa Group’s flagship show over time.
The hosts’ blend of humor, audience engagement, and authentic relationship narratives sustains the station’s leadership in morning programming.
During their signature segment Patanisho, Gidi and Ghost welcome listeners to call in seeking reconciliation with separated partners, relatives, or friends, serving as live mediators who connect with the other party to facilitate open dialogue.
