Ruto examines Ciumbu market construction in Murang’a

William Ruto continued his development tour in Murang’a County, inspecting the construction of the Ciumbu Modern Market in Maragua.

During the Saturday visit, the Head of State assessed the site’s progress and voiced contentment with the construction speed.

He was joined by officials, including Deputy Kithure Kindiki and Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome.

He stated the project is part of a national initiative focused on enhancing trading environments for informal sector workers, known as mama mboga and small-scale vendors.

Ruto mentioned the government is building 25 modern markets throughout Murang’a County, with an approximate investment of Sh2.5 billion.

He added the initiative is part of a countrywide plan encompassing 600 markets under development.

“Nationally, 600 markets are in progress, meeting our pledge to provide mama mboga and other traders with suitable workplaces,” Ruto stated.

The Ciumbu Modern Market, situated in Maragua Constituency, is among anticipated projects that will transform local commerce upon completion.

According to government information, the facility will house over 200 traders, providing enhanced working conditions, sanitation, storage facilities and organized trading areas.

The President’s Murang’a tour has additionally concentrated on other development ventures, including affordable housing projects.

He reiterated the government’s dedication to completing current projects within scheduled timelines to enable communities to start benefiting.
