The annual Rhino Charge motorsport event focused on conservation has officially designated Samburu County as the venue for its 2026 edition, with a complete field of 65 competition vehicles confirmed.
Event organizers describe the gathering as combining adventure, community engagement, and environmental objectives within Samburu’s challenging semi-arid landscape.
Rhino Ark Charitable Trust CEO Christian Lambrechts took the opportunity to emphasize conservation accomplishments during the past twelve months, especially concerning the Southern Mau Forest.
“In the last year, we have allocated substantial resources to the southern region of the Mau, a 158,000-hectare native forest that serves as essential watersheds for the Mara, Sondu, and Ewaso Nyiro South rivers,” he stated.
He mentioned that a new base in Olenguruone is managing a significant EU-funded initiative, supported by private sector collaborations that have resulted in a 32-kilometre barrier along the northern perimeter of South Western Mau.
Additional progress was shared regarding Rhino Ark’s signature electric fencing initiatives.
“Fencing work on Mount Kenya is advancing satisfactorily, with 318 kilometers completed to date, while in Kakamega, 50 kilometers of the intended 117-kilometer boundary fence have been established,” Lambrechts elaborated.
He stressed that while barriers are crucial for protecting natural habitats and minimizing human-wildlife conflicts, they also impose enduring maintenance requirements.
“Each kilometer of barrier we construct represents progress in preserving our ecosystems and communitiesbut it also expands our maintenance obligations,” he explained.
“To counter this, we have created an Endowment Fund to ensure sustainable funding for the continuity of our conservation initiatives.”
Beyond barrier installations, Rhino Ark underscored advancements in community livelihood programs, environmental awareness campaigns, forest rehabilitation, and endangered species protection efforts.
The Samburu gathering, planned for May 29–31, will include vehicle inspections, the main competition, and an awards presentation.
Organizers indicate that the Charge continues to represent innovation in conservation while providing a remarkable cultural and natural environment for both participants and observers.
