Fourteen people lost their lives Monday morning when a CityLink Aviation aircraft crashed near Luri, approximately 20km southwest of Juba, officials confirmed. The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) stated that the Cessna 208 Caravan, bearing registration 5Y-NOK, was en route from Yei to Juba International Airport when the incident occurred. No survivors were found. The airplane departed from Yei at 9:15 AM. At 09:43 AM, air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft as it neared Juba. Shortly afterward, the plane crashed in the Luri region on the outskirts of the capital. Initial reports suggest adverse weather conditions and poor visibility may have contributed to the accident. An unofficial source previously informed reporters that the aircraft might have collided with a mountain before bursting into flames. The SSCAA confirmed that 13 passengers and one crew member were aboard the flight. Two victims were Kenyan nationals, while the other 12 were South Sudanese. “The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority confirms an aircraft crashed roughly 20km southwest of Juba today,” the SSCAA announced in a press release dated April 27, 2026. An SSCAA emergency team has been sent to the crash location to assist with rescue and recovery efforts. The Authority expressed sympathies to the families and loved ones of those involved. The crash site is currently secured. Investigators will analyze weather information, flight documentation, and debris to determine the precise cause of the accident. The SSCAA indicated that additional information will be shared as confirmed details become accessible. CityLink Aviation Ltd, the aircraft’s operator, has not released an official statement at this time.
