Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi firmly rejected assertions that his recent assault was connected to a romantic entanglement, describing the narrative as deceptive government propaganda and maintaining that the incident had political motivations.
Osotsi stated that efforts to dramatize the attack were intended to shift focus away from the actual causes of the assault.
“It was not a romantic situation; I am happily married. Even if I were inclined to pursue such matters, I would not do so publicly,” he stated during a press conference following his recovery.
“It is regrettable that when a Kenyan leader faces an attack, the storyline immediately pivots to personal issues rather than addressing the factual circumstances.”
Osotsi voiced apprehension regarding how quickly alternative accounts of the incident surfaced online, prior to any official statements or media coverage.
“Within ten minutes of the incident, bloggers were already presenting their interpretations of what occurred. They appeared to possess knowledge of the events before even my own media team,” he remarked.
Osotsi described the seriousness of his injuries, disclosing that he had been in critical condition immediately after the attack.
“My entire face was swollen beyond recognition. My right hand was rendered immobile, and I sustained a significant injury to my knee,” he explained.
“One of the assailants attempted to seize a firearm,” he added.
He was initially transported to Aga Khan Hospital, where preliminary emergency treatment was provided.
The senator acknowledged Siaya Governor James Orengo and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for organizing efforts that facilitated his subsequent treatment in Nairobi.
“Governor Orengo was present in the area and promptly arrived. Working alongside Senator Sifuna and other officials, they collaborated with law enforcement and parliamentary authorities to arrange my transfer,” Osotsi stated.
He was later admitted to Karen Hospital, where he received specialized medical care that substantially contributed to his recovery.
“Karen Hospital is an excellent medical facility. They provided me with individualized attention, and I recovered relatively quickly. I anticipated a longer stay, but I am now fully recovered and prepared to resume my responsibilities,” he said.
The incident has triggered renewed discussions regarding the security of political figures and the proliferation of false information following such assaults.
Osotsi called on authorities to concentrate on investigating those responsible and ensuring they face consequences, instead of permitting unfounded theories to dominate public conversation.
“I am alive, I have recovered, and I am prepared to resume my activities,” he declared, indicating his return to active political involvement despite ongoing questions about the attack’s underlying motives.
