Osotsi Files Statement as Linda Mwananchi Leaders Push for Action in Kisumu Attack

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has filed a formal statement at Parliament Police Station in Nairobi regarding the assault he experienced earlier this month in Kisumu.

The senator was accompanied by Linda Mwananchi team members, who confirmed they had provided official accounts of the incident to investigators. The group is now pressing authorities to swiftly apprehend those they believe orchestrated the assault.

Team members claimed to possess compelling evidence connecting a high-ranking government official to the incident. They cautioned that if law enforcement fails to act, they might pursue private prosecution against what they believe are the attack’s masterminds.

Following Osotsi’s statement completion, James Orengo criticized the investigative pace, accusing police of neglecting to question or detain individuals allegedly involved in the attack.

“The suspects remain free, yet have been summoned to provide statements. The principal figure, who was present at the property before the violent assault, has not been called in,” Orengo stated.

He further indicated that delays in the investigation could encourage perpetrators of political violence.

“If police do not arrest and prosecute those behind this brutal attack, we will initiate private prosecution against the masterminds. If we allow this to continue, the situation in Kenya will deteriorate,” he added.

Edwin Sifuna also commented, noting that authorities’ failure to act on available evidence would compromise legal principles.

“If substantial evidence cannot compel police to apprehend the masterminds, then this country lacks law and order,” Sifuna stated.

Obadiah Barongo shared similar sentiments, urging government intervention against what leaders described as rising politically motivated attacks.

“Endorsement of hooliganism must cease. We do not want Kenya to follow the path of Haiti,” Barongo said.

Osotsi was attacked on the morning of April 8 at a Java House branch located within Western Mall in Kisumu.

The Linda Mwananchi team has also announced intentions to organize a public gathering in Kisumu on April 26, where they aim to rally supporters and demand accountability regarding the incident.
