The National Police Service has declared significant road closures in Nairobi starting from midnight on Monday, May 11, 2026, as the city gears up to host the three-day African Forward Summit 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). The event, running from May 10 to 12, 2026, is anticipated to cause substantial traffic disruptions throughout the capital.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud has confirmed that multiple key roads will be completely closed during the summit period, with restrictions primarily impacting routes to and from the city center.

During a press briefing on Saturday, May 9, 2026, Mohamud stated that the fully restricted roads will include City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, and Taifa Road. Access to these areas will be severely limited, with only authorized vehicles permitted entry to the KICC Conference Centre.

In addition to the complete road closures, major thoroughfares such as Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road, Kiambu Road, and substantial portions of Nairobi’s Central Business District are likely to face heavy traffic congestion due to implemented security and traffic control measures.

He urged drivers to plan their trips in advance, utilize alternative routes when available, and maintain patience throughout the duration of the summit.

Motorists have also been instructed to comply diligently with directions from traffic officers positioned across the city to facilitate orderly movement and maintain security protocols.
