Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen recently praised Kenyan police personnel deployed in Haiti under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission as Kenya prepares to conclude its involvement.

Accompanied by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Murkomen met with the remaining Kenyan officers on April 27, 2026, in Haiti during the concluding stages of the mission’s withdrawal.

The visiting Kenyan team was welcomed by MSS Contingent Commander Godfrey Otunge and Kenya’s Consul General to Haiti Noor Gabow along with other local officials.

The Kenyan leader received updates on the mission’s activities, particularly efforts to establish stability and restore order in Haiti, and the transition to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) as mandated by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2793 of 2025.

In his remarks, the Cabinet Secretary acknowledged the officers’ commitment and sacrifice during their demanding overseas service. He also shared a message of support from President William Ruto and emphasized the backing the mission receives from Kenyan citizens.

Inspector General Kanja commended the officers for their exemplary professionalism and discipline, highlighting that their contributions had elevated Kenya’s standing internationally. He encouraged the officers returning to Kenya to utilize their acquired expertise to enhance domestic policing and public services.

National Security Advisor Joseph Boinett characterized the deployment as a significant chapter in Kenya’s security history, praising the officers for safeguarding the nation’s image while promoting peace and stability internationally.

Later that day, the withdrawal process advanced as 150 officers departed Haiti for Nairobi, representing a major milestone in Kenya’s disengagement from the MSS mission.

Additional senior officials present included Administration Police Service Director of Operations Jackson Kangani and the Inspector General’s Personal Assistant James Murithi, among other distinguished attendees.
