Kenya’s tourism industry demonstrated impressive expansion during 2025, accumulating around Sh500 billion in revenue as the number of international visitors increased to 2.7 million.
This information comes from a recent performance report published by the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife. Through a press statement from Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, authorities highlighted how the sector has solidified its status as a fundamental economic contributor, supported by enhanced destination promotion, improved air connections, and increasing worldwide trust in Kenya as a preferred travel destination.
The official statement emphasized that “Kenya’s tourism industry achieved robust and continuous growth in 2025, confirming its critical function as a major component of the national economy.”
According to the report, Kenya received approximately 7.9 million tourists throughout the year, consisting of 2.7 million international guests and 5.2 million local travelers. International visitor numbers grew from 2.47 million in 2024 to 2.7 million in 2025, marking a 9 percent increasemore than double the worldwide average growth rate of 4 percent.
The ministry credited this performance to “improved destination marketing, better product offerings, and ongoing recovery in important source markets.” Africa continued to be Kenya’s primary source market, accounting for 47 percent of all international arrivals, with Europe at 25 percent and the Americas at 14 percent.
The ministry noted that “the United States maintained its position as Kenya’s largest source market, followed by Uganda, Tanzania, and the United Kingdom, with increasing diversification into emerging markets including India and China.”
Leisure tourism represented 46 percent of all visitor arrivals, with social visits making up 20 percent and business travel accounting for 19 percent.
Authorities also pointed to the implementation of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system as a significant element in enhancing the visitor experience and simplifying travel procedures.
The ministry indicated that Kenya is establishing itself as the “Origin of Wonder” through ongoing investments in infrastructure, innovation, conservation, security, and workforce development. The statement added that “The Government has reiterated its dedication to further boosting tourism competitiveness through promotional activities and marketing, establishing Magical Kenya as the ‘Origin of Wonder’.”
The ministry also expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for backing the sector’s recovery and growth, while acknowledging Kenyans and international travelers for their contributions to Kenya’s tourism advancement.
