The Kenya Meteorological Services Authority (KMSA) has cautioned residents about moderate to heavy rains expected over the next five days, spanning from Saturday, May 30, to Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
According to the weekend weather advisory, Kenya Met indicated rainfall would affect Central Kenya, Western, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands, and North-eastern Kenya.
The weather department reported that at least 20 counties in Western, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley experienced showers and thunderstorms during Friday night, May 29.
These counties encompass Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
These counties are anticipated to receive heavy rainfall, primarily commencing in the afternoon following cloudy conditions and light morning showers, accompanied by thunderstorms.
In Central Kenya, light rains are forecasted in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.
Additionally, light rains are expected in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland sections of Tana River County.
Coastal and North Eastern regions should also prepare for light rains, with affected counties including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo.
While most of the country will experience rain, sunny and dry conditions have been predicted for the North-western counties of Turkana and Samburu.
Beyond rainfall forecasts, the meteorological department also noted cold weather, especially in Central Kenya, where night temperatures could drop to 5°C.
Counties likely to experience these cold conditions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.
Concurrently, daytime temperatures in certain areas of the country are expected to reach up to 37°C, particularly in North-western Kenya and the coastal region.
