Journalist Douglas Mudambo Laid to Rest Amidst Media Tributes

Kenya’s media community is grieving the loss of Douglas Mudambo, a senior communication officer at the Kenya News Agency (KNA).

The journalist’s demise has elicited condolences from fellow professionals, leaders, and media figures nationwide.

In a statement of condolence, the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) portrayed Mudambo, who held the position of Senior Information Officer for Mt. Elgon Sub-County, as a dedicated professional who distinguished himself until his final days.

The council highlighted his work in the Mt. Elgon area and noted that he would be recalled for his ‘professionalism, dedication, and steadfast devotion to journalistic excellence.’

‘The Media Council of Kenya stands with the family, friends, and the broader media community in mourning this premature loss,’ the statement continued, adding, ‘He will be warmly remembered for his professionalism and dedication.’

The journalist’s death has particularly affected colleagues in Bungoma County and the broader western Kenya region, where he established himself as a dedicated and trustworthy reporter.

He contributed to reporting on significant development matters in Mt. Elgon, including agricultural and local governance features published by KNA throughout his career.

Prominent figures and colleagues shared tributes on social media, characterizing him as a modest and diligent journalist.

One tribute recalled him as ‘a dedicated journalist… who faithfully served’ the nation through his duties at KNA.

Another mourner stated, ‘I stand with media colleagues in mourning… a dedicated journalist,’ emphasizing his influence in the field.

Acquaintances and fellow reporters also remembered his beginnings in journalism, with one tribute saying, ‘I knew Douglas Mudambo… may his soul rest in peace,’ demonstrating the relationships he formed during his professional journey.

The journalist’s death has been characterized as a significant setback for grassroots journalism, particularly in rural reporting where he played a vital role in bringing community matters to light.

His reporting frequently amplified the perspectives of Mt. Elgon residents, illuminating development challenges and prospects in the area.

As condolences continue to arrive, colleagues assert that his legacy will persist through the narratives he shared and the individuals he influenced.

Additionally, Mudambo, who served as Mt. Elgon Sub-County Information Officer until his passing, will be interred at his residence in Sikulu, Tongaren Sub-County, Bungoma County, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Family sources disclosed that the remains will depart from a funeral home in Kimilili on Tuesday the 14th for an overnight vigil at home before the interment on the 15th.

The late Mudambo is survived by his wife Benedick Kipkarich and their five children.
