Homa Bay Women’s Representative Joyce Osogo has urged President William Ruto and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to implement decisive measures to prevent electoral violence before the next General Election.
Addressing the launch of her Bensouda Super Cup 2026 tournament at Onundo Stadium in Suba North Constituency, Dr Osogo expressed concern about rising incidents of politicians allegedly hiring individuals to disrupt opponents’ public gatherings across Homa Bay County and the nation.
She appealed to the Head of State and the electoral commission to take firm action to protect the democratic process, cautioning that inaction might encourage leaders seeking to instigate disorder.
Dr Osogo voiced worry that certain politicians are exploiting the constitutional democratic framework, stressing that electoral competition must not be associated with violence or intimidation.
The legislator also advised young people against being used by politicians to create disturbances, pointing out that these practices only compromise peace and stability.
She reaffirmed that the upcoming elections should not lead to violence, calling upon all stakeholders to maintain peaceful and transparent electoral processes.
