DCP and Jubilee Clash Over Ol Kalou By-Election

by KenyaPolls

A political confrontation is emerging within the opposition as Democratic Change Party’s Hezron Obaga and Jubilee Party’s Jeremiah Kioni revealed deep disagreements leading up to the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
In a formal announcement, Obagathe National Secretary General of DCPconfirmed his party will participate independently, indicating an end to previous collaborative efforts with Jubilee.
“We will organize fair, impartial, and open party nominations to select our representative,” Obaga stated, while inviting Jubilee to present their own candidate.
“Democracy flourishes through competition, and ultimately, the voters will decide.”
However, his comments conveyed evident dissatisfaction with previous political alliances.
Obaga referenced unsuccessful partnership attempts in Isiolo and Narok, blaming Jubilee for sabotaging prior mutual understanding.
“We expected that in forming a combined alternative administration, you would back DCP in Narok,” he mentioned.
In a firm assertion of autonomy, Obaga declared: “DCP is not a subordinate ally, and we are not insignificant figures in this political arena.”
Meanwhile, Jubilee represented by its Deputy Party Leader Kioni responded with a resolute position, confirming the party’s strong participation in the Ol Kalou election.
“We will nominate a capable candidate for the forthcoming Member of Parliament by-election,” Kioni announced, urging opposition supporters to unite behind Jubilee’s chosen representative.
“This election will be a definitive measure of our collective dedication to trust, unity, and the larger goal of showing a consolidated opposition.”
The dialogue reveals increasing distrust among opposition members, casting doubt on the viability of a coordinated approach.
