Machakos Governor Criticizes MPs’ Bursary Allocations
Governor Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos has expressed concern that bursary allocations by Members of Parliament are insufficient to meet the growing education needs of students nationwide. Speaking at the launch of the 2024/2025 bursary program at Ivumbuni Primary School in Mumbuni North Ward, she highlighted a new agreement allowing governors to participate in bursary distribution, using county revenue to support education.
Governor Wavinya unveiled a Ksh 120 million bursary fund, noting that over 92,500 learners have benefited under her administration. She emphasized a fair and inclusive selection process to ensure deserving students are prioritized.
Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi praised the initiative, calling it an investment in the future. Governor Wavinya stated that while MPs contribute bursaries, counties have a role in supplementing education funding using locally collected revenue.
