Uasin Gishu MCAs Question Persistent Revenue Shortfall
Members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly (MCAs) have raised concerns over a persistent shortfall in own-source revenue, which they claim has slowed development projects across the county.
Key Points:
Revenue shortfall:
2024/25: Target Sh1.34 billion, collected Sh1 billion
2023/24: Target Sh1.5 billion, collected Sh1.3 billion
2020/21: Target Sh1.1 billion, collected Sh991 million
2018/19: Target Sh1.2 billion, collected Sh918 million
Total shortfall: Over Sh2 billion over the past eight years.
MCA concerns: David Keittany highlighted that own-source revenue has stagnated at Sh800 million to Sh1 billion despite economic growth and new revenue streams. He called for a probe into possible leakages.
Governor’s response: Jonathan Bii reassured that development projects are on track, citing progress in water, agriculture, cooperatives, and infrastructure. He emphasized continued efforts to deliver on the Nguzo Kumi agenda.
