The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy has intensified efforts to bolster national security by strengthening government communication systems. During a high-level meeting held on Tuesday, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Steve Isaboke, met with the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, alongside Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura. The leaders emphasized that effective public communication is central to advancing government priorities, improving citizen engagement, and ensuring seamless dissemination of information across the country—particularly at a time when secure communication is increasingly vital for national stability.

In their discussions, the officials highlighted the importance of resilient telecommunications infrastructure as a strategic pillar in safeguarding national security. They noted that secure, reliable networks enable faster decision-making, coordinated emergency response, and smoother information flow between security agencies. The meeting also explored ways in which the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications can better support law enforcement bodies, including enhancing communication tools used during field operations and strengthening the channels used to convey critical public safety information. Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Temesi Mukani, accompanied PS Isaboke in the engagement, signaling the Ministry’s unified approach to integrating modern communication within national security frameworks.

This renewed inter-departmental collaboration comes as the government seeks to modernize information systems and reinforce coordination across security and communication sectors. Analysts say that improved communication infrastructure will not only enhance operational efficiency but also build public trust through timely, accurate updates during emergencies and national exercises. The ministries reaffirmed their commitment to developing robust, technology-driven communication systems capable of serving a rapidly digitalising economy. As Kenya continues to strengthen its digital transformation agenda, officials expressed confidence that these collaborative efforts will help build a safer, more responsive, and well-informed nation.
