Ministry of Education (CS Ogamba) has officially denied any increase in boarding fees for learners in public senior secondary schools. He clarified that the current fee structure remains unchanged, despite earlier media reports indicating otherwise. Here are the key details:
The CS stated:
Parents, learners and the general public are hereby notified that there has been no revision of boarding fees, or any other fees, payable by learners.
The approved capitation rate (funding given by the government per learner) remains at KSh 22,244 per learner per year.
The denial comes amid circulating reports that from January 2026, boarding senior schools would charge a uniform annual fee of KSh 53,554 for all public senior boarding schools.
CS Ogamba reiterated that any new fee structure will only apply when formally approved and communicated; until then, schools are to continue with the existing guidance.
