Jubilee Party Launches Grassroots Revival Push Ahead of 2027 Elections
Nairobi — Former ruling party Jubilee has officially rolled out its grassroots mobilisation initiative, signalling a determined effort to rebuild its support base ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a meeting held on 6 and 7 November that brought together party heavy-weights including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and aspirant presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee laid out plans to strengthen its grassroots networks and rejuvenate member recruitment across the country.
The shake-up comes amid concerns that Jubilee’s relevance has been eroded since the 2022 elections, with many former members drifting to other parties. Party insiders revealed a restructuring strategy that includes mass membership drives, expansion of county level offices, and targeted outreach to youth and women’s wings.
The meeting in Murang’a county, part of a series of similar regional gatherings, underscored the leadership’s intent to reconnect with the grassroots in regions such as Mt Kenya and beyond, signalling a move to stem the tide of disengagement and bolster organisational discipline.
Reactions in political circles are mixed. Supporters view the revival as a timely and necessary repositioning — one that could allow Jubilee to re-establish itself as a credible player in national politics. Critics, however, caution that the success of this effort hinges on more than optics; they note that the party will need to translate structural reforms into tangible presence and influence across constituencies. If the revitalisation stalls, Jubilee risks fading further into the periphery as newer alignments dominate the run-up to 2027.
Looking ahead, the coming months will be critical for Jubilee’s future. The implementation of the grassroots programme, its ability to mobilise at the county level and build momentum among younger voters will all shape the party’s positioning for 2027. Should Jubilee manage to strengthen its base, it could emerge as a key fixture in the next electoral contest; failure to do so could hasten its decline.
