Baringo County Launches Sh400 Million Road Construction Equipment to Boost Development

Marigat, Baringo County – Governor Stanley Kiptis has officially launched road construction equipment valued at over Sh400 million, aimed at upgrading infrastructure in Baringo South and Mogotio Sub-Counties. The launch, held in Marigat town on Wednesday, included the unveiling of a dozer, two excavators, a motor grader, a roller, and a Toyota Hilux double cab. Governor Kiptis emphasized that the new machinery would enhance the county’s road network, facilitating trade, improving access to services, and fostering overall socio-economic development.

The governor noted that the county had previously struggled with limited machinery, which hindered timely completion of infrastructure projects. Roads are vital public assets; they connect people to jobs, healthcare, education, and social services. This investment will help us achieve comprehensive road networks across all parts of Baringo, Kiptis said. He further highlighted that improved roads would open up remote and previously insecure areas, boosting market access and livelihoods. County Executive Committee member for Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works, Elijah Kipkoros, urged local administrators to work closely with contractors to ensure smooth project delivery and maximize benefits for residents.

The governor also appealed for increased support from the national government to provide food relief in areas affected by insecurity, particularly for internally displaced persons in Arabal and Mochongoi. He added that recruitment of drivers for the new machinery would soon begin, with a focus on employing more youth. Stakeholders at the event praised the public participation process, crediting it for ensuring the project’s successful rollout. Looking ahead, the county government plans to leverage the new equipment for further infrastructure development, including construction of roads and dams, reinforcing Baringo’s position as a hub for economic growth in the region.
