Nyandarua Youth to Benefit from Sh87.5 Million NYOTA Funding

Nyandarua County is set to receive Sh87.5 million under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme, aimed at empowering young people through entrepreneurship. County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa announced the initiative during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Tumaini Town, Mirangine Sub-County, noting that each of the county’s 25 wards will have 70 youths selected to receive Sh50,000 each to kickstart income-generating ventures. The programme is expected to provide opportunities for productive engagement and help curb youth unemployment.

Jaldesa praised the county for its contribution to national food security and for ranking among Kenya’s top counties in environmental conservation. He also called on chiefs to identify orphans, vulnerable children, people with disabilities, and the elderly to benefit from the government’s monthly social empowerment stipend. The County Commissioner further announced that JM Hospital and Ol Kalou Stadium will undergo upgrades, highlighting the collaboration between national and county governments. He addressed local concerns, including teenage pregnancies, alcohol abuse, and land disputes, promising follow-up with relevant authorities to ensure resolution.

Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha encouraged residents to allocate land for public amenities, pledging county support for acquisition. He also reviewed infrastructure milestones since 2022, particularly road improvements, while celebrating Nyandarua-born artists and athletes who have brought national pride. The event was attended by area MCA Thuo Gachino, County Assembly Majority Leader Mwangi Nyanga, and nominated MCA Milka Nyambura, reflecting strong local leadership engagement in youth empowerment and community development.
