Residents and businesses across 17 Nairobi neighborhoods are set to experience a temporary 24-hour water shortage on Saturday, June 20.
Nairobi Water said it is notifying customers and the public about a temporary interruption that will affect multiple residential, commercial, and institutional areas in Nairobi and surrounding areas.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company said the disruption will hit estates such as Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Upper Hill, Karen, Lang’ata and Madaraka.
Additional affected locations include Ngong Road, Kibera, Uthiru, Kawangware, Kangemi, Ruai, Ngundu and Kamulu.
Areas supplied by MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company, including parts of Ong’ata Rongai, will also face supply interruptions.
The outage is linked to a leak on the NCT Raw Water Pipeline near the Kigoro Treatment Works, prompting urgent repair work.
Nairobi Water said the leak must be addressed immediately to protect the integrity of the water transmission system and maintain dependable service.
The pipeline forms a major part of Nairobi’s bulk water supply network, moving untreated water from upstream abstraction points to the Kigoro Treatment Works for treatment before distribution.
Any break in service on the line reduces the amount of water reaching the treatment plant, straining supply in parts of the capital that rely on the system.
Officials said such leaks are especially serious because they cause major water losses before treatment and can weaken system stability if repairs are delayed.
Customers in the affected areas are urged to keep enough water for domestic, institutional and commercial use during the shutdown.
Normal supply is expected to return at 6am on Sunday, June 21.
