Gospel musician and politician Ngaruiya Junior has officially requested the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to examine claims made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding a purported assassination plot. On Monday, Ngaruiya visited the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road in Nairobi with his legal team, submitting a formal complaint urging immediate investigations into statements allegedly made by Gachagua during a morning television interview. In his complaint to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Ngaruiya voiced apprehension about statements indicating his life might be in danger, noting that the claims have attracted significant public attention and concern. Addressing media outside the DCI headquarters after submitting the complaint, Ngaruiya stated that the seriousness of the allegations necessitated involving law enforcement authorities to determine the facts and protect his well-being. These allegations are grave and involve life and security issues. If there is indeed a threat against me, the responsible agencies must take prompt action to ensure my protection. Should the claims be baseless, the public deserves to know the truth,” he stated. In his petition, Ngaruiya referenced Articles 26 and 29 of the Kenyan Constitution, which protect the right to life and the right to freedom and security for all individuals. He maintained that any insinuation of a conspiracy against a citizen’s life raises substantial constitutional and security concerns requiring immediate investigation. The musician requested the DCI to initiate investigations into the allegations, summon Gachagua to give a statement, and compel him to provide any information or evidence substantiating the claims. He additionally asked investigators to determine whether a credible threat exists against his life and to recommend suitable legal measures based on the findings of their inquiry. According to Ngaruiya, if the former Deputy President has intelligence suggesting his life is at risk, security agencies should act immediately to eliminate the threat and provide adequate protection. I am part of the Kenya Kwanza administration, and my life is now endangered due to those remarks. I am requesting the government to ensure my security and enable me to perform my responsibilities without fear,” he stated. His legal representatives, headed by advocate Ezra Kiplangat, supported the demand for prompt investigations, stressing that allegations concerning threats to life should not be disregarded. The lawyers contended that public declarations implying an assassination plot must either be verified with evidence or thoroughly investigated to avoid unwarranted public alarm and maintain trust in state institutions. They additionally issued a seven-day ultimatum, urging Gachagua to provide a statement to investigators and reveal specifics about the supposed plot, including the parties involved and the foundation of his assertions. The legal team mentioned that the statements were reportedly made during a television interview where the former Deputy President was addressing the reported acid attack and subsequent death of political activist Wandeto. Ngaruiya’s complaint has now brought the matter before investigators, with the DCI anticipated to ascertain whether the allegations indicate a real security threat or if additional legal measures might be required. This development introduces a new aspect to the continuing political discourse about security matters and pronouncements by high-ranking political figures, with focus now shifting to investigative bodies for clarification and potential measures. Copies of the complaint were also sent to the Inspector General of the National Police Service and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), highlighting the importance with which the musician and his legal team are approaching the case. By Monday evening, Gachagua or his representatives had not publicly responded to the complaint.
