Registration for the 23rd edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon has officially commenced. Event organizers are advising participants to register promptly as multiple categories are anticipated to fill up more quickly than in previous years. As one of Africa’s premier road races, this year’s marathon aims to attract over 30,000 participants, continuing the momentum from 2025 when 30,602 runners from 98 countries participated, including more than 200 elite competitors. David Mwindi, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, highlighted that the improved registration system is crucial for improving the participant experience and bringing the event in line with global standards. He noted, ‘This year’s event demonstrates our progress in enhancing the participant journey and aligning with international standards.’ The upgraded registration portal serves as a vital component in making information more accessible, streamlining the registration process, and helping runners prepare for the race. The new registration platform features an intuitive interface with comprehensive details on race categories, fees, eligibility criteria, and scheduling information. Additionally, it includes interactive route maps, training guidance, fundraising resources, and live availability updates for different race categories. The registration fees are maintained at Ksh 2,500 for individual participants and Ksh 20,000 for the CEO Challenge. Participation interest continues to rise, with the international contingent from last year totaling 1,791 participants, primarily from Uganda and Tanzania. The competition also featured impressive elite participation, with more than 200 athletes competing. Organizers stress that the Nairobi Marathon has transformed beyond a mere sporting competition, functioning as a vehicle for social impact. Throughout the past twenty years, the event has raised approximately Ksh 520 million to fund programs aimed at enhancing employability, fostering entrepreneurship, and developing skills for youth, women, and individuals with disabilities through the Standard Chartered Foundation. For this year’s edition, the marathon is targeting Ksh 75 million for the Foundation, further establishing its dual role as a leading sporting competition and a catalyst for community development.
