Mount Kenya University (MKU) has once again showcased its athletic prowess, establishing itself as one of the leading institutions at the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) Nairobi North Conference League.
Considered one of the most fiercely contested university leagues in recent memory, MKU delivered a remarkable performance after seven months of rigorous preparation characterized by discipline, resilience, and steadfast commitment.
MKU’s exceptional organization and sportsmanship earned them multiple prestigious awards, including Best Private University, Best Host University, Most Punctual University, and First Runners-Up Overall Winning University.
The university’s overall performance demonstrates consistent competitive dominance across various events. This establishes the institution as one of the most successful participants in the league, showcasing both depth and consistency across individual and team sports.
The university demonstrated its athletic depth by securing championship titles across multiple sporting categories. The teams captured 10 titles across various disciplines including 3×3 Basketball (Men & Women), Woodball (Men & Women), Taekwondo (Women), Table Tennis (Women), Karate (Men), Darts (Men), and Badminton (Men & Women).
The university also achieved strong results with eight second-place finishes in Basketball (Men), Athletics (Men & Women), Karate (Women), Swimming (Men & Women), Table Tennis (Men), and Tennis (Women).
Additionally, the university obtained nine third-place finishes in Basketball (Women), Football (Women), Hockey (Men), Netball (Women), Volleyball (Men), Chess (Men), Darts (Women), and Scrabble (Men & Women).
Following the competition, Mr. William Luta, Head of Sports, Creative and Performing Arts at MKU and Secretary of the Nairobi North Conference, commended the athletes for their dedication.
“This was an intensely competitive league. Seven months of hard work, determination, sacrifice, and persistent effort have finally borne fruit. My congratulations to Mount Kenya University and all the award recipients,” he stated.
“These results reinforce our commitment to supporting sports development as an essential component of student growth and excellence,” he emphasized.
Other universities also delivered notable performances. Kenyatta University emerged as the overall champions, while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) secured third place overall.
Mama Ngina University College was recognized as the most improved institution in the competitions, JKUAT was named the most disciplined, and St. Paul’s University received the Best Fair Play award.
Beyond the podium placements, the KUSF Nairobi North Conference League highlighted the resilience, teamwork, and escalating competitive standards of university sports in Kenya.
As Mr. Luta maintains, the league represented more than just victories, embodying “the spirit of perseverance and unity that continues to shape the future of university sports.”
