Top 10 Counties Leading Female SHA Enrollment

by KenyaPolls

Kenya is experiencing substantial female participation in the Social Health Authority (SHA) registration process, with leading counties showing significant numbers as the nation transitions away from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Based on the 2026 Economic Survey, Nairobi City tops the list with 844,905 registered women, demonstrating both its substantial population base and greater understanding of health insurance advantages.

Kiambu ranks second with 442,033 registrations, while Nakuru reported 387,976. Kakamega and Mombasa also reported notable figures, indicating expanding adoption outside the metropolitan area.

Additional counties in the top ten consist of Bungoma, Kisumu, Machakos, Homa Bay, and Kisii.

These statistics encompass registrations since SHA officially succeeded NHIF in October 2024. Specialists indicate that elevated female registration matters because women frequently hold key positions in family healthcare choices and maternal health accessibility.

Greater enrollment is projected to enhance medical service accessibility, lessen financial strain during illness and reinforce the nation’s progress toward comprehensive healthcare coverage for all residents.
