Detectives from Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Mombasa apprehended two suspects and confiscated 250 kilograms of cannabis sativa following credible intelligence.

Based on reliable information, the officers detained 43-year-old Tito Paul Mulu in Port Reitz, Changamwe, which led them to his accomplice, 23-year-old Oliver Ochieng, in Mudengereni, Kisauni.

During questioning, Ochieng directed authorities to his rented accommodation where investigators discovered two sacks filled with cannabis sativa.

“This operation demonstrates ANU’s determination to identify and eliminate drug traffickers and dismantle illicit networks, maintaining our communities’ safety from narcotics,” stated the DCI.

This incident follows another arrest where police officers at a security checkpoint along the Thika-Garissa Highway in Kanyonyoo detained a drug suspect and confiscated cannabis in his possession.

The 27-year-old suspect, Stephen Oronje, was traveling in a Nissan matatu when police discovered a black backpack containing approximately three kilograms of cannabis sativa.

The substance was carefully wrapped in green polythene and sealed with adhesive tape, apparently to avoid detection.

Officers also recovered eight packages of rolling papers, each containing one hundred sheets, and a digital weighing scale, indicating plans for redistribution.

Initial questioning revealed that the suspect had acquired the cannabis from Bungoma County and was transporting it to Kitui Town for sale.

The individual was taken into custody and brought to Kanyonyoo Police Station. All evidence was secured pending court proceedings.
