Laikipia Leaders Emphasize Leadership Over Party Affiliations for 2027 Elections

Members of Parliament from Laikipia County are urging citizens to prioritize visionary leadership over party affiliations when casting their votes in the upcoming 2027 General Elections.

The leaders, led by Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri, his Laikipia West counterpart Wachira Karani, and the County Women Representative Jayne Kagiri, have stated that party and regional politics would not enable Kenyans to select credible leaders during the elections.

They made these remarks in Maina Village in the outskirts of Nyahururu town in Igwamiti Ward during a Community Engagement Forum where they called upon opposition figures to allow Kenyans to make their own choices regarding the direction they wish to take ahead of the General Elections.

Kiunjuri, who also serves as The Service Party Leader (TSP), expressed concerns over the growing trend of regional politicking as seen in ODM, UDA, and the United Opposition, pointing out that such divisions could undermine the broader democratic process. He emphasized that it is time Kenyans respect divergent opinions instead of criticizing others.

Ms. Jayne Kagiri underscored the need for Kenyans to support the government to achieve meaningful development. She noted that the opposition had nothing to offer and hence urged residents to rally behind the government to reap benefits before the end of the first five-year term of the Kenya Kwanza Government.

Dr. Wachira Karani, Laikipia West MP, called for peaceful coexistence, noting that without harmony, no meaningful development can be realized.

The leaders also announced their intention to demand a fair share of representation in the broad-based government, similar to other parties.

“Even if we contribute 30% of our votes to the Next Government, our votes will still remain the majority, thus ensuring we receive a significant share of the government,” stated Mwangi Kiunjuri, Laikipia East MP.

Kiunjuri further asserted that the Mt Kenya region would cast the majority of votes to support the government, which is why they will demand their share.

“Our votes must count, and that is why we will demand the government. Just like other parties supporting the government, we must demand our rights,” he noted, maintaining that the Mt Kenya region was behind President Ruto’s administration since it had delivered most of its promises.

“We are behind the government as it has fulfilled almost all our wishes. As Mt Kenya leaders, we are all behind the government,” he added.

Wachira Karani and Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, who accompanied him, supported the move.

“We have witnessed what the government has done for us, and that is why we will remain in this government. But we will demand a share of our votes,” said Karani.

Ms. Kagiri stated that most people from Mt Kenya had benefited from government development projects, which is why they will remain with the government.

“We are in the government fully. That is why we will also mobilize our people to support it in the next general elections,” she noted.
