Four-year-old found dead in abandoned house in Nyamira

Police are investigating the killing of a four-year-old girl in Gesima village, Nyamira County.

The body of the girl was discovered in an abandoned house on April 28, sometime after the incident occurred.

Police handling the case stated they had not yet determined the motive behind the killing. The body showed visible injuries on the head and face, with her clothes torn.

The remains were transported to the mortuary for an autopsy. By Wednesday, no arrests had been made, though police indicated they were following leads in the investigation. The child had been residing with her grandmother in the area.

In a separate incident in Marafa, Kilifi County, a 56-year-old man identified as Ruphus Muganga was discovered deceased outside his residence.

His wife informed authorities they were inside their home when unidentified individuals called him outside on Tuesday evening.

She mentioned hearing him scream once before finding him lying in a pool of blood with serious injuries.

The motive for the killing remained unclear, and the body was taken to the mortuary for examination. Police stated they were pursuing those responsible for the incident.

In another occurrence, a 64-year-old man died following an attack by a ram in Kibichoi, Kiambu County.

Police reported the incident happened on April 28, when the victim, identified as Stephen Wagicio, suffered fatal wounds.

Witnesses stated the man was seated at home when the ram charged and knocked him to the ground.

He sustained head injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending further procedures. Police visited the location and confirmed the incident. The family indicated they were considering their options regarding the animal following the fatal event.

Meanwhile, two suspects identified as Evans Otieno Ongere and Abel Onyango Owuor, who were apprehended with a Phantom pistol along the Kisumu-Busia Highway, were brought before the Principal Magistrate’s Court in Vihiga, where detectives secured a 14-day detention order.

The recovered firearm is now at the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic analysis, with police noting this is part of efforts to determine if it had been used in other incidents.

Another suspect, Christopher Okello, who was rescued from mob justice after being found with a bow and arrow, was also arraigned and pleaded not guilty.

He was released on a bond of Sh100,000. The case is scheduled for mention on May 14, 2026.
