Richard Manyuro has emerged as the lucky winner of a motorcycle in a Bayer East Africa seed promotion initiative.
The farmer from Manga Sub-county in Nyamira County secured the prize after purchasing Dekalb maize seeds and participating in the promotional campaign.
Manyuro acquired two packetsDeekalb (DK) 833 and 831from an agrovet store in Kisii after following instructions broadcast on television.
“Television advertisements informed viewers that scratching the code and sending it to 1393 could lead to winning prizes. I followed this process, and within two weeks, I received a call confirming my motorcycle win,” he explained.

The farmer officially took possession of the motorcycle on Thursday, highlighting its practical value for his agricultural operations.
“This vehicle will enable me to transport fertilizer to the fields, carry harvested crops, and ensure farm workers arrive punctually,” he noted.
Manyuro mentioned his long-standing use of Dekalb maize seeds since 2015, emphasizing consistent crop production even during dry periods.
He encouraged fellow farmers to utilize certified seeds and stressed the importance of timely availability, particularly at the commencement of planting seasons.

Barnabas Maseki, a representative from Bayer East Africa, explained that the promotion, running from February 15 to April 30, aims to reward farmers while combating counterfeit seed distribution.
“We identified that numerous farmers inadvertently purchase fake seeds, leading to diminished harvests. This initiative seeks to guarantee farmers’ access to authentic seeds,” he stated.
He recommended that farmers confirm seed legitimacy by scratching the package code and sending it to 1393.
Maseki outlined the available Dekalb seed varieties, including 77, 833, 831, and 9089, as well as newer yellow maize varieties like 7500 and 9701, which are adapted to various growing environments.
He underscored the importance of thorough land preparation and the utilization of suitable inputs to enhance crop yields.
This campaign provides farmers with opportunities to win prizes while encouraging the adoption of certified seeds.
