Kenya Discusses Student Welfare with Beijing Embassy

A high-level consultative meeting at the Embassy of Kenya in Beijing has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting Kenyan students studying abroad.
Principal Secretary (PS) Julius Bitok stated that he conducted a courtesy visit to the mission in China, engaging in discussions with the Education Attaché regarding the status of Kenyan students.
“I conducted a courtesy visit to the Embassy of Kenya in Beijing, China, where I participated in a high-level consultative meeting with the Education Attaché,” Bitok noted.
The meeting offered a thorough overview of Kenyan students in China, emphasizing academic opportunities including scholarships, institutional partnerships, and skills-based training programmes.
“The engagement provided a detailed update on the situation of Kenyan students in China, with focused discussions on current academic opportunities, such as scholarships, institutional connections and skills-based training initiatives,” he added.
Discussions also tackled challenges facing students, encompassing welfare issues, academic continuity, and adaptation to the host country.
According to Prof. Bitok, the deliberations sought to enhance coordinated support systems for learners overseas.
“We also examined significant challenges affecting student welfare, academic continuity and integration, with the aim of reinforcing responsive and coordinated support frameworks,” he said.
Prof. Bitok restated the government’s stance on protecting the interests of Kenyan students internationally while utilizing global partnerships to expand educational opportunities.
“The Government remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the interests of Kenyan learners abroad while advancing bilateral cooperation in education,” he stated.
He further mentioned that continuing efforts would concentrate on broadening access to quality education, enhancing student support systems, and aligning international training opportunities with Kenya’s development objectives.
Officials participating in the meeting comprised Chargé d’Affaires Collins Karithi, Education Attaché Albert Ombiro, Political Officers Brian Choma and Mercy Achieng, Trade Attaché Livingston Wahuro, and Immigration Attaché Geoffrey Gikonyo.
