Viral TikTok Clip Reveals Young Lewis Baraka’s Cancer Battle

by KenyaPolls

Five-year-old Musa Kihara began what seemed like a typical school day at Gituja Primary School in Maara, Tharaka Nithi County, unaware that a chance meeting by the roadside would soon transform his life and his family’s destiny.

Today, the boy is recognized nationwide as “Kwa Mbae,” a nickname that emerged from a viral TikTok video showing him providing innocent directions to his home.

Exhausted after his school journey, Musa stopped by the roadside, uncertain how to continue his trip home. At that moment, a boda boda rider approached. Following the common practice in rural communities, the boy requested assistance. It was a simple plea, but the events that unfolded were far from ordinary.

The rider, initially hesitant, questioned whether the boy knew his way home. Musa replied with surprising composure and childlike innocence. Recognizing something special in the conversation and embracing the modern tendency to capture unique moments, the rider chose to record the exchange.

“I wasn’t recording at first,” the rider explained afterward. “It was only after he began speaking that I thought it might make for engaging content.”

What followed were the now-iconic words, spoken with a distinctive Meru accent: “Do you know that place near Mbae, and over by Mwenda’s… you know, the side where Uncle Muriithi lives… we’re right in the middle. No gate.”

The rider subsequently shared the clip on his TikTok account, ‘Heri Tuchizi.’ The brief video, lasting less than thirty seconds, rapidly captivated millions of Kenyans, propelling Musa to sudden fame.

Yet beneath the humor, memes, and public admiration lay a much more serious narrative.

As the video circulated through TikTok and other social platforms, concerned Kenyans traced Musa to his home in Ituntu village within Maara Constituency. What they discovered was not merely a viral sensation, but a family facing significant hardship.

Musa hails from a modest family with six children, raised by parents Kirimi Chabari and Rose Andenyi. Their circumstances were already challenging, but a serious medical crisis had brought them to their breaking point.

His brother, Lewis Baraka, had been fighting cancer for months, accumulating hospital expenses approaching KSh 2 millionamounts far beyond what the family could afford.

During the peak of Musa’s viral moment, Lewis was hospitalized at Chogoria, with their father serving as his primary caregiver by his side. At home, daily survival had become an arduous challenge.

“We lack adequate housing, and securing food has become difficult since my husband is away caring for our son,” his mother shared.

Touched by Musa’s innocence and the family’s circumstances, Kenyans united in support. Donations have flowed from throughout the country, with concerned individuals visiting to provide food, clothing, and financial assistance.

This viral encounter had unexpectedly opened doors the family had never anticipated.

Resources have since been mobilized to support Lewis’s treatment. He has been transferred to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, while work continues to address his medical expenses and provide ongoing care.

At the heart of this narrative stands Musa Kihara, maintaining his calm and innocent demeanor as he witnesses how chance encounters can gradually reshape his family’s future. His tale serves as a reminder that the most seemingly ordinary moments can yield extraordinary results.

Most significantly, it demonstrates that when Kenyans unite, even the most substantial burdens can start to lessen.

Musa never intended to become “Kwa Mbae,” yet his sudden celebrity status has transformed into a source of hopenot for himself, but for his brother, Lewis Baraka.

According to TikToker Obidan, who has played a key role in organizing support for the family, a visit to their residence is scheduled for April 26, 2026, with many optimistic that Lewis’s condition will have improved and the financial pressure reduced by then.
