The Road to Somabay amateur golf series accelerated during the weekend with the second stage held at Machakos Golf Club, where four golfers secured positions for the national championship.
Colin Nzioka and Collins Kaloki progressed from Division A, whereas Wickliffe Musili and Augustine Mboya moved forward from Division B. Musili demonstrated exceptional skills on the day, achieving 40 points to claim the top position overall.
The Machakos stage followed the initial event at Limuru Country Club, attracting a competitive group as golfers competed for limited qualifying positions.
Organizers indicate that the nationwide tournament is intended to enhance amateur golf by providing organized competition and a route to international recognition. Each stage produces four finalists who advance to the championship later in the year.
Somabay World Cup representative Collins Were expressed that the initiative is beginning to show positive results.
“The goal is to provide opportunities for players alongside promoting tourism and expanding the sport domestically. We’re witnessing substantial engagement, which indicates the capacity within amateur golf,” he stated.
He mentioned that collaborations will be essential in maintaining the tournament and accomplishing its future aims.
Commercial International Bank (CIB), Egypt’s foremost private financial institution, has become the official monetary supporter, introducing a cross-border aspect to the competition.
CIB Marketing and Communications Manager Vivian Kiberenge noted that the collaboration matches the bank’s emphasis on sports advancement and regional involvement.
“This collaboration aids in nurturing talent while reinforcing commercial connections between Kenya and Egypt via golf,” she mentioned.
Leading participants in the tournament will receive an opportunity to participate in Egypt at the Somabay World Cup Amateur Golf Tournament.
Focus is now directed to future qualifiers at Ruiru Sports Club, Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, and Great Rift Valley Lodge.
With two stages finished, the competition for qualification is becoming more intense, with additional golfers anticipated to join the roster in the upcoming weeks before the championship later this year.
