The Ministry of Health has declared the conclusion of the nurses’ strike at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

This announcement came after officials characterized the talks between hospital administration and the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives (KNUNW) as “intensive and constructive.”

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale verified that both sides had established a return-to-work protocol addressing persistent issues.

“The industrial action by nurses at Kenyatta National Hospital has been formally terminated,” Duale stated, noting that both parties demonstrated “goodwill, professionalism, and a mutual dedication to resolving the outstanding concerns.”

The agreement encompasses enhanced medical coverage, structured career advancement, workload management strategies, and the gradual transition of contract nurses to permanent positions with pension benefits.

“These represent significant progress toward improving staff welfare, motivation, and retention within our healthcare framework,” Duale emphasized.

He praised KNH leadership for maintaining essential services throughout the strike and requested that nurses resume their duties without delay.

“Moving forward, our priority must be providing quality, efficient, and compassionate healthcare to all Kenyans,” he emphasized.

The Ministry of Health has committed to overseeing the execution of the agreed terms and maintaining ongoing dialogue with stakeholders to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

Duale reassured citizens that the government continues to focus on building a stronger health workforce and enhancing service quality at all public health institutions.
