Leaders from the Narok County government have approved the establishment of a satellite campus of Maasai Mara University in Emurua Dikirr Constituency to honor the late MP Johana Ng’eno.

During a public event on Thursday, March 12, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntuntu stated that he engaged with senior management of the institution and over 30 leaders from Narok, who have already approved the initiative.

According to the governor, this was one of the promises made by President William Ruto during the lawmaker’s burial, and the county government is prepared to allocate 100 acres of land for the institution’s establishment.

“The president pledged that the government would establish this university, and I met with the university’s vice chancellor this morning in Narok, and we agreed to secure 100 acres for the university,” the governor said.

“As you are aware, a university is substantial, and all these leaders agreed to name this institution as Johana Ng’eno University College of Maasai Mara University,” he added.

The governor further mentioned that the county government will accelerate other infrastructure developments the late MP had initiated, including roads and hostel construction, to solidify his leadership legacy in the constituency.

Ng’eno was among those who perished in a crash that caught fire on Saturday evening in Chepkiep, Mosop Sub-county.

Ng’eno was first elected as MP in 2013 and successfully retained his position in the 2017 and 2022 General Elections.

Prior to his passing, he served as Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning, and Public Works. In this capacity, he had recently led the committee in reviewing the 2026 Budget Policy Statement (BPS) and conducted oversight visits to Affordable Housing Projects.

During the late Ng’eno’s burial on Friday, March 6, the President spoke in recognition of the lawmaker’s contributions.

The Head of State announced that the estate, one of the city’s oldest, would be renamed Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate to acknowledge the MP’s role in advocating for the affordable housing initiative.

According to the President, the renaming was a gesture of appreciation for the deceased lawmaker’s leadership and dedication to ensuring the success of the housing project.
