The Media Council of Kenya has joined family, friends, and colleagues in mourning Kiplangat Nicholas Kosgei, widely known as Nick, who lost his life in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on February 28, 2026.
In a statement of condolence issued on Sunday, the Council portrayed Kosgei as a talented and committed photojournalist whose expertise in visual storytelling distinguished him as an emerging talent in Kenya’s media landscape.
“The Media Council of Kenya stands with the family, friends, and colleagues of Kiplangat Nicholas Kosgei during this time of sorrow,” the Council expressed.
“His exceptional ability in visual storytelling, professional conduct, and steadfast dedication to his craft established him as a promising figure in the journalism profession.”
At the time of his passing, Kosgei was employed as a photojournalist with the former Emurua Dikirr Member of the National Assembly, the late Johana Ngeno, who also died in the accident along with other passengers.
The MCK highlighted that Kosgei was a graduate of Maseno University’s Media Department, having completed his studies in 2023.
While at the university, he held the position of Head of News at Maseno Radio, showcasing his leadership abilities and high journalistic standards during his tenure.
“Nick represented the ideal characteristics of a young journalistenthusiastic, meticulous, and profoundly dedicated to covering significant stories,” the Council remarked.
The Council emphasized that Kosgei’s demise constitutes a significant loss not just to his personal and professional circle, but also to the broader media sector, adding that his “dynamic personality and bright future in journalism will be fondly remembered.”
Inquiries regarding the cause of the helicopter crash are currently underway.
