The Murang’a County Government has revealed that Governor Irungu Kang’ata sustained damage to his heel tendons after falling during a Nutritional International meeting taking place today, Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in Nairobi.
The County Government confirmed in an official statement, “His Excellency Governor Irungu Kang’ata was participating in a Nutritional International meeting in Nairobi when he unexpectedly fell and injured his heel tendons.”
Nutrition International, a Canadian government-supported entity, convened the meeting, collaborating with Murang’a County and other Kenyan counties to promote nutritional and public health initiatives.
The county has emphasized that the partnership concentrates on implementing essential nutritional and public health programs across participating counties.
After undergoing a medical assessment, the Governor has been directed to refrain from attending in-person office duties for about one month.
The statement indicated he was instructed “to avoid physical office engagements for approximately one month to ensure complete recovery,” during which period he will continue medical treatment.
To guarantee uninterrupted county operations, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will assume responsibilities requiring the Governor’s physical presence.
Furthermore, County Executive Committee Member for Finance Prof. Kiarie will manage specific engagements as needed.
However, virtual official meetings are scheduled to resume beginning next Monday.
“Murang’a County Government thanks the ongoing prayers and support from residents and stakeholders and extends best wishes for the Governor’s quick recovery,” concluded the statement.
