Kenya’s digital future received a major boost as the 11th ICT Connected Summit concluded in Kwale County, culminating in the adoption of a new ten-year ICT Master Plan set to guide the country’s technological growth from 2022 to 2032. The four-day gathering, held at Leisure Lodge Resort, brought together government officials, innovators, private sector leaders, and global technology exhibitors, all aligned under the theme Accelerating Digital Transformation. The Master Plan focuses on strengthening digital infrastructure, expanding public digital services, enhancing local innovation, and promoting digital enterprise across the country.

During the summit, participants engaged in detailed discussions touching on the evolution of Kenya’s ICT environment and its growing impact on economic and social development. Key sessions explored digital infrastructure expansion, data protection, cybersecurity, digital currency, e-commerce, and the role of emerging technologies in public service delivery. According to organizers, the plan will serve as a structured roadmap for transforming Kenya into a digital society, positioning the country to exploit regional and global opportunities. Attendees also noted that Kenya currently has one of the highest internet penetration rates in Africa, highlighting its potential to become a continental technology leader.

The closing ceremony was presided over by ICT and Innovations Principal Secretary Jerome Ochieng, who applauded industry experts and innovators for shaping conversations that will accelerate the country’s digital journey. Ochieng emphasized that the summit has played a vital role in building partnerships among government institutions, private firms, academia, and tech entrepreneurs. He reiterated the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, strengthening digital governance, and supporting young innovators. ICT Authority Acting Director-General Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh echoed this, noting that the summit creates a platform where technological inventions can be showcased, tested, and supported, especially for youth seeking opportunities in the digital economy.

Looking ahead, officials expressed confidence that Kenya’s ICT sector will continue to advance through collaborative investment, continental partnerships, and sustained innovation. Ochieng urged that future editions of the summit expand beyond national borders to become a regional technology showcase aligned with Africa’s long-term development goals under Agenda 2063. With more than 9,000 kilometres of national fibre already deployed and growing private sector engagement, the new Master Plan is expected to guide Kenya toward a fully digital economy that enhances service delivery, creates jobs, and strengthens the country’s global competitiveness.
