Traders in Embu Raise Alarms Over Insecurity
Traders in Embu Town have raised urgent alarms over a surge in insecurity that is threatening their businesses and livelihoods. The business owners reported a sharp increase in incidents of armed robberies, shop break-ins, and muggings, particularly during the evening and early morning hours. This wave of crime has forced many entrepreneurs to close their premises early, resulting in significant financial losses.
During a meeting with the County Security Committee, the traders detailed their ordeals, citing specific gangs that operate with impunity. They appealed for immediate intervention, including increased police patrols, the installation of functional street lighting in the central business district, and the establishment of a dedicated police post within the town center to ensure a faster response to incidents.
The County Commissioner acknowledged the grievances and assured the traders that their safety is a top priority. He announced an immediate reinforcement of police patrols and the deployment of undercover officers to gather intelligence on the criminal networks. The security team has urged the business community to collaborate by reporting suspicious activities and implementing private security measures, promising a concerted effort to restore order and protect commerce in the county.
