Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has officially launched the construction of modern markets in Masinga, Mutituni, and Kithimani, signaling a major step towards enhancing local trade and economic growth. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Masinga town, Governor Ndeti emphasized her commitment to collaborating with the National Government to deliver meaningful development for county residents while cautioning against political interference.

The markets, developed under the Economic Stimulus Program (ESP), are designed to boost local commerce and provide inclusive facilities, including dedicated spaces for lactating mothers. Ndeti reaffirmed her administration’s focus on fulfilling pre-election promises, urging politicians to avoid retrogressive politicking that could derail progress. Yatta District County Commissioner Lilian Njagi praised the initiative as a progressive approach, highlighting the value of collaboration between county and national governments in driving development projects.

The construction of these markets is part of a broader county strategy that will see eight modern markets established across Machakos. The initiative is expected to improve business opportunities for local traders, create jobs, and enhance service delivery. Looking ahead, the county government plans to continue leveraging partnerships and strategic planning to ensure sustainable economic growth, while providing residents with modern, safe, and accessible commercial hubs.
