Kiambu County is experiencing rapid growth, marked by major infrastructure upgrades, agricultural support programs, and innovative business ventures. Central to these developments is the KSh 37.2 billion ($286 million) Chinese-funded Kiambu Road dual carriageway project, which aims to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity for businesses, although planned evictions of some residents and enterprises pose short-term challenges.
Entrepreneurial growth is also evident with the launch of the TOP KING SERVICE CENTER along Kiambu Road, featuring Kenya’s first 360° automated car wash, tyre services, smart diagnostics, and solar energy solutions. In the agricultural sector, the Ndarugu Dairy Farmers Co-operative Society received a 5,000-litre milk cooler from Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke, aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and boosting farmer incomes.
Despite the progress, challenges remain. Real estate developers have clashed with the county over delayed approvals, threatening legal action, while preparations for Thika’s elevation to city status require careful management to maintain investor confidence. Governor Kimani Wamatangi is also spearheading a modern bus park in Ruiru, providing 200 free kiosks for traders, upgraded roads, and improved drainage, enhancing commercial activity. Kiambu County collected KSh 3.3 billion in revenue, ranking third nationally and highlighting its growing economic influence.
