Aftermath of the devastating landslides

On 2 November, the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet shared images showing the aftermath of recent devastating landslides. Community members reacted strongly, urging action to prevent future disasters:

Tree Planting Advocated: Several residents emphasized the importance of large-scale tree planting to stabilize soil. Suggestions included using long tap-rooted species and the Miyawaki method for fast-growing indigenous forests.

Acknowledging the Tragedy: Citizens expressed condolences and highlighted the landslide as one of the county’s most devastating moments.

Calls for Prevention: Planting bamboo and other stabilizing plants was recommended to strengthen weakened soil affected by intensive farming.
